For success and survival , in the changing dynamics of today’s globalized world , learning a new language is a pre-requisite. The journey of learning a new language is never easy, especially, if that particular language is not commonly spoken by the people in your surroundings. Why do we have to learn a new language ? Why is learning a new language associated with success and survival ? How can we learn and speak a new language ? All of these questions comes in the mind of every individual that is struggling to learn a new language.

Before moving on to the main point of the discussion lets find some quick answers for the aforementioned questions:

WHY DO WE HAVE TO LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE ?

Learning a new language has become a matter of life and death in today’s society because the world we live in is a global village and we all are connected with each other. Hand in hand with connectivity, comes competition. And to compete we need to have some extra set of skills, in which language comes first. We have to learn the language of power in order to gain and stay in power, respectively.

‘’ RISE WITH THE RISING SUN ‘’

Nowadays, English is the language of power and has become a common and important language. But the dynamics of powers are changing, with the rise of a nation, rises its language. As China is peacefully rising as the next global superpower, there are chances that Mandarin would become the next language of power, and we all would have to learn it, in order to gain and stay in power.

WHY IS LEARNING A NEW LANGUAGE ASSOCIATED WITH SUCCESS AND SURVIVAL ?

Learning a new language is associated with success and survival because if we want to earn a decent living in today’s globalized world, we are required to learn an extra pair of language. To get a job in a foreign country, to get scholarships abroad, to travel for fun, to get connected with the world, to broaden your horizon, YOU NEED TO LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE.

With new languages, comes new opportunities. With new opportunities comes success.

HOW CAN WE LEARN AND SPEAK A NEW LANGUAGE ?

The most effective and the only accurate way to learn a new language is to learn it the way you learned your native language. BUT STOP ! You did not learn your native language , you just acquired it intuitively. YES ! You got it right. If you want to learn a language , you have to learn it without actually learning it.

Following are the ways to learn a language intuitively :

i) LISTEN :

When a child is born, he/she has no language, he only acquires and understands it by listening. For the first, two years a child only listens. So, the first and foremost step towards learning, is listening. Listen to the language you want to learn. Just LISTEN ,LISTEN and LISTEN, but do not force your mind to learn it. When you will not force your mind to learn it, it will automatically draw memory lanes in your brain, and you will begin to learn it subconsciously.

Rule no.1: Do Not Force !

ii) SPEAK WITHOUT FEAR:

After two years of listening, a child gradually starts or at least tries to speak the language in his own language, without the fear of being judged. That is exactly what you will do next. Start trying to speak that language, you will make mistakes, but you will learn from your mistakes. So please make mistakes, if you want to avoid them permanently.

Rule no.2: Make Mistakes !

iii) READ:

After being able to speak, start reading in that language as a child does when he goes to school. Ask Questions to yourself and try to find the answers.

Rule no.3: Ask Questions !

iv) WRITE:

After being able to read start practicing to write from the ABC of that language, as a child does when he gets familiar with the words.

v) THINK:

When you are done with writing, start to think in that language, the accurate way to speak effectively is to think in that particular language and then speak. If you would think in your language and then try to translate it into that language, then I am sorry to say, that is not the way to go about a language.

vi) BE YOUR OWN COMMENTATOR:

When you think that you have successfully passed all the five steps of learning, then start testing yourself. Play a cricket or football match, mute it, and then start commenting on it as the commentators would do. In this way you will be able to speak that language fluently.

This is the most precise way to go about a language, for success and survival.
